1. University Core Requirements
The following table is a summary of the requirements for the University Core Requirements for students admitted in 2022-23 and thereafter. Except specified programmes / students who are granted exemption by attainment or by equivalence, all students have to complete the requirements for graduation according to the study schemes as recommended by the Departments/Major Programmes concerned.

2. Course Registration of Core Courses in 2024-25
As the University core courses are compulsory, except specified major programmes / students with different arrangements (listed in 3 below) and / or students who meet the requirements for exemption by attainment or by equivalence, all Year 2 students* will be pre-assigned the following Chinese and English courses according to their Faculties.

* Students who failed / did not take the required Year 1 Foundation course will not be pre-assigned the Year 2 compulsory course. They have to take the required course according to the advice of the course offering department.
For the General Education Foundation Courses: In Dialogue with Humanity (UGFH1000) and In Dialogue with Nature (UGFN1000), students should register the course on their own on CUSIS. For details, please refer to ‘Course Selection Information for University General Education Courses’ on RES homepage.

3. Special Arrangements for Specified Major Programmes / Students

Students of English Programme will not be pre-assigned English for Arts Students I (ELTU2011) as its equivalent courses are included in their major curriculum.

Students of B.A.(English Studies) and B.Ed.(English Language Education) Co-terminal Double Degree Programme will not be pre-assigned English for Education Students I (ELTU2013) as its equivalent courses are included in their major curriculum.

Students of Social Work Programme will be pre-assigned Professional Communication for Social Workers (ELTU2411); arrangements will be made by Departments concerned.

Students of LLB Programme will not be pre-assigned University Chinese II (CHLT1002) and Discipline/Faculty-specific English language course. Faculty will provide information to Registration and Examinations Section on course fulfillment.

Students of Faculty of Science will be pre-assigned English for Science Students I – Effective Communications (ELTU2018) or English for Science Students I – Science Research Writing (ELTU2019). Arrangements will be made by the English Language Teaching Unit.

Students of Financial Technology Programme will be pre-assigned English for Engineering Students I – Extensive Reading about Contemporary lssues (ELTU2024), arrangements wil be made by English Language Teaching Unit.
