Dear Students, |
The first teaching day of Term 2, 2023-24 will begin on 8 January 2024. Before the start of term, please be informed of the following pertaining to course add/drop, declaration of second major, application for change of study period and suspension of studies. |
1. |
Second Term Course Add/Drop |
a. |
Application for Exceeding Term Course Load under CUSIS (27 December 2023 – 3 January 2024) |
Please submit application for exceeding course load (for update of term course load for course add/drop period) during the specified time as announced on RES homepage. Late application will NOT be accepted. Please observe detailed information on RES homepage before submission. For year 1 students, please observe their course load information as allowed before making any submission of applications for exceeding course load. |
b. |
CUSIS Course Add/Drop (15 - 21 January 2024) |
Students should add/drop courses under CUSIS from 15 January 2024 to 21 January 2024 except for courses with "add/drop consent". The login time on 15 January 2024 is from 20:30 (HKT) and the system will close at 20:30 (HKT) on 21 January 2024. To free up quotas for other students, students should DROP the courses as soon as possible and by 20:30 on 21 January 2024 if they no longer intend to register for the course. Departments may NOT allow any drop of the courses during 22 January – 26 January 2024 unless for special reasons. Students who are on wait list will enroll automatically whenever the quota is increased, or when the quota is freed up by other students. It is students' responsibility to check their updated course enrolment under “View My Classes” on a daily basis. |
c. |
Special Course Add/Drop at Department (22 – 26 January 2024) |
Students may approach course offering departments concerned for course add/drop during 22 January – 26 January 2024. |
d. |
Regulations on Course Load |
Students should observe Regulation 5.0 Course Load and Selection in the General Regulations Governing Full-time Undergraduate Studies regarding the prescribed course load of at least 9 units and no more than 18 units of courses to be registered in any academic term within the normative study period, unless otherwise permitted. RES will send e-mail reminders to students concerned if they have course load problem. |
2. |
Declaration of Second Major (15 – 26 January 2024) |
In accordance with our notice posted in May 2023, students may declare a second major during the second term course add/drop period if they have already fulfilled the graduation requirements of the first major and are in their last term of attendance within the normative study period. Application form for “Declaration of Second Major” is obtainable from RES counter during the period listed above. Late application will NOT be accepted. |
3. |
Change of Study Period |
a. |
For final term students (EYG = Term 2, 2023-24; application period: 29 January - 31 May 2024) |
Application form will be available on RES homepage starting from 29 January 2024. Graduating students should refer to our announcement that will be sent by mass mailing in late January 2024 to apply for change of expected year/term of graduation (EYG) if they cannot fulfil their graduation requirements within second term 2023-24, including summer session. |

b. |
For non-final term students (application period: 2 - 31 January 2024) |
Students who have special reasons to change their study period should send an email to RES (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) to check their eligibility to extend or shorten their study period. The prescribed application form will be given to students who meet the criteria for making the application. |

4. |
Application for Suspension of Studies |
When special circumstances arise that necessitate suspension of studies for a term, students should apply for suspension of studies within the academic term (i.e. on or before the last teaching day of an academic term), and not after the term ends. For outgoing exchange students, they should also apply for suspension of studies by the specified deadline. |
For any questions regarding the above, please send email to RES (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.). |
