For New Students admitted in 2024-25
1. University Core Requirements
The following table is a summary of the requirements for the University Core Requirements for students admitted in 2022-23 and thereafter. Except specified programmes / students who are granted exemption by attainment or by equivalence, all students have to complete the requirements for graduation according to the study schemes as recommended by the Departments and Major Programmes concerned.

2. Course Registration of Core Courses in 2024-25
As the University core courses are compulsory, except specified major programmes/ students with different arrangements (listed in 3 below) and / or students who meet the requirements for exemption by attainment or by equivalence or take an advanced English course (ELTU1002: English Communication for University Studies), all new students will be pre-assigned to the following Chinese, English and Digital Literacy and Computational Thinking courses according to their Faculties in the first year of attendance.

In general, students will be pre-assigned the language courses (CHLT1001 and ELTU1001) and Digital Literacy and Computational Thinking (ENGG1003 or ENGG1004). However, for General Education Foundation Courses (In Dialogue with Humanity (UGFH1000) / In Dialogue with Nature (UGFN1000)), Understanding China (UGCP1001), Hong Kong in the Wider Constitutional Order (UGCP1002) and required Physical Education courses, they should register the courses on CUSIS on their own according to the announcement of the offices concerned.

# Special arrangements will be made to MBChB students by their Faculty Office and Offices concerned.
3. Special Arrangements for Specified Major Programmes / Students

Students of English Programme will not be pre-assigned ELTU1001 as its equivalent courses are included in their major curriculum.

Students of LLB Programme will be pre-assigned a Discipline/Faculty-specific English language course in their first year of attendance. These students will not be pre-assigned CHLT1001 and ELTU1001. Faculty will provide information to the Registration and Examinations Section on course fulfillment.

Students of MBChB Programme will not be pre-assigned ELTU1001. Faculty will handle course registration for the students.

Students admitted with Advanced Standing will be pre-assigned Self-Learning Chinese (CHLT1105) and Discipline/Faculty-specific English language course in their first year of attendance according to their Faculties and they are exempted from taking CHLT1001, CHLT1002, ELTU1001 and ENGG1003 or ENGG1004.

Students admitted with Advanced Standing who are exempted by Senate from the Chinese Language requirements for admission will be pre-assigned Self-Learning Elementary Chinese (CHLT1104) and Discipline/Faculty-specific English language course in their first year of attendance according to their Faculties and are exempted from taking CHLT1001, CHLT1002, ELTU1001 and ENGG1003 or ENGG1004.

Students admitted to Senior-Year Places are exempted from taking CHLT1001, CHLT1002, ELTU1001 and ENGG1003 or ENGG1004. Higher Diploma Holders will be pre-assigned by the English Language Teaching Unit the Discipline/Faculty-specific English language course in their first year of attendance.

Students exempted by Senate from the Chinese Language requirements for admission will need to approach the Department of Chinese Language and Literature on their own for an assessment. Recommendations will be made by the Department to the Registrar for the appropriate Chinese language courses to be taken by students concerned for fulfillment of the requirements.
