Subject: Degree Conferment Dates in a Calendar Year
Dear Students,
We are pleased to advise you that, with effect from this academic year (2021-22), degree conferment will be decoupled from the Congregation/Graduation ceremonies in November/December, and there will be three specified dates for conferment of Bachelor’s, Master’s and doctoral degrees awarded by the University in a calendar year. These specified conferment dates are: 31 March (for Term 1 graduates), 31 July (for Term 2 graduates) and 15 October (for Term 2 graduates with summer courses enrolled and/or other pending graduation requirements). Under this new arrangement, students who have fulfilled all graduation requirements will have their degree conferred at an earlier date, which will facilitate their further studies or employment needs.
As the degrees will be conferred after the completion of the graduation assessment, students are reminded to plan their academic studies carefully and to fulfill all graduation requirements by the end of the specified academic term. Students must also carefully observe the grade appeal period of an academic term. Any grade appeal made after the specified grade appeal period will NOT be entertained. Students should proactively follow up with the course teachers concerned for any pending grades after the grade release date. For students with pending grades/documents/records at the time of graduation assessment (e.g. outstanding course grades, official transcripts for course and unit exemption for outgoing exchange students, unresolved disciplinary action), their degree conferment will be postponed to the next degree conferment date if these outstanding graduation conditions are still not yet fulfilled/confirmed within the period of graduation assessment.
The degree certificates will be available for collection around one month after the degree conferment date. Graduates of this first term of the academic year 2021-22 may observe the degree certificate collection dates that will be posted on RES homepage in early March 2022.
